A Weeks Vacation In July

We have been on vacation for the last week. Tomorrow is our last day before we go back to work. And I just realized that though we have done some of the things that we wanted to do this vacation. I did not take any pictures for my blog. As you can probably tell from the title I am doing my best to head off a bit of depression. When my anxiety level gets high depression always creeps in. I am not overly concerned though as I have been through this so many times that I know there is lots I can do to help with it. To help combat it I created a bit of a plan for our vacation.

The very first day of vacation, Saturday, we just got groceries and did some errands and then went home and relaxed. We didn’t do much at all. On Sunday we attempted to go to Risser’s Beach Provincial Park outside of Bridgewater. The day started out rainy and was supposed to warm up and get sunny in the afternoon. Except, it didn’t. It stayed rainy for most of the day so we went for a drive around the area and eventually gave up and went home.

On Monday we went to Laurie Provincial Park in Fall River and had a picnic lunch. The plan was to go swimming, however when we got there I quickly realized it was not the beach I thought it was. I had remembered a big open field and picnic tables with a beach behind it but instead it was very woodsy and a rocky beach on the lake. So after a bit of Googling I realized it was actually Oakfield Provincial Park that I was thinking of so we went there. We swam for about an hour and then headed home as we were both getting tired by that point.

Tuesday we went to Aylesford Lake Beach down the Annapolis Valley in Aylesford, NS. I have to say of any lake beach I have been too since I was a kid this was the best! Of all the lake beaches in Nova Scotia that I have been to for sure this is the one that I loved the best. Even my parents absolutely loved it. There was so much space and though it was busy it did not feel crowded. The lake was literally one of the best ones I’ve swam in. It was quite warm, clean and clear and very sandy and easy on the feet.

Wednesday into Thursday (today) we had a pretty good storm with lots of rain and wind so we shifted to indoor activities. I have been watching tutorials on web design and UI/UX design and I also have been doing a course on Greek Religion from Open Learn. Tomorrow is supposed to be mainly sunny through the day and so I am thinking we will enjoy a nice walk beside Kearney Lake or on the trails. This is actually walking distance from where we live so we will likely come back and hang out around home for the rest of the last day of vacation.

I have come to realize something over the last little while: my constant striving for perfection is just anxiety disguised as perfectionism and I don’t really know where to go with that. I am sure I am not alone in this. I’ve read it’s common in women with anxiety and/or ADHD. While I do not have an ADHD diagnosis I definitely have quite a few of the traits that I have read about when researching ADHD in women. I used to spend hours blogging and reading other peoples blogs. Mostly women my own age but that was a long time ago and the blogging landscape has changed so much since then. Now it is more about what you can do for others and not just…

I moved my computer out of the den today and into the second bedroom. Our den does not have a window and it was depressing in there. I did not want to be in there on the computer. So I though moving it to a bigger room with a window, lots of natural sunlight and the option for fresh air as well as a pull-out couch my husband can lay on might entice me to go on my computer more and get back into some of the things I have been missing such as blogging, looking at hand lettering related things on Pinterest and working on the printing practice workbook I started months ago. Things that I have always enjoyed and that help improve my…
